The Kitchen Design Brief

To extend the ground floor to the rear of the kitchen and strip out and completely renovate the old kitchen area, doubling the size of the original kitchen.

Client Consultation

I met with the client and spent several hours discussing their ideal country kitchen design and what would be possible within their budget. The client already had a clear idea for the look and décor for their new kitchen units but required our expertise with the construction and layout. Our architect then met with the client and prepared detailed plans for the extension. The client then provided me with detailed drawings of what they had in mind for the kitchen which I drew out on CAD computer software for accurate sizing.

A Fitted Country Style Kitchen

The basic design was to be a ‘country kitchen’ look using a wooden fronted inlayed door design, painted in a light green. The CAD drawings were sent to the workshop in Canterbury where we make all our kitchen by hand and the construction of the bespoke units began. This included a corner unit with shelves, a butler sink unit with cupboards either side, one of which was to house the washing machine and the other a cupboard and drawer. There was also an island unit designed by the client and again refined accurately using the CAD software. All the other units such as the bench seat, fridge unit, oven housing and larders were built on site using the same design concept.

Once the main extension was complete we engaged our electrician and supplied a full wiring spec for the new kitchen and seating area. After this, the extension and old kitchen had new ceilings installed and the whole area was plastered ready for decoration. The floor area was screeded ready for the tiling the client had chosen -terracotta farmhouse tiles which were sealed and polished.

When the floor was completed and the kitchen had been painted at the workshop it was delivered to site ready for installation. Once in place, all of the other carpentry requirements were completed and the granite worktops installed.

The whole country style kitchen build and renovation project took 6 weeks from start to finish.
